Although the Mexican Mint offers the Proof Silver Libertad Coins in seven weights each year, the demand for the coins varies across the collection. While some collectors prefer the larger coins and the bigger design field available on such a blank, others prefer the flexibility to purchase a greater volume of the collectible coins by getting the fractional-ounce coins. The fractional-ounce coins in the Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Series were the first additions to the collection following the 1986 debut of the 1 oz silver coin. This made the Mexican Libertad one of the first, and still one of the only, silver bullion coin programs with fractional-ounce silver to purchase.

Though the 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz silver coins have never outsold the 1 oz option in the collection, when the demand for the 1 oz silver coin surges it tends to bring all the coins up with it and the two smallest fractional-ounce coins have tied the 1 oz silver coin in terms of mintage more than a dozen times since 1992.

The obverse side of 2020 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins bears the image of Winged Victory. Known as the Angel of Independence, Winged Victory is based on the goddess of victory and her figure as shown here matches a statue built in 1910. To honor the centennial of the start of the nation’s war of independence, the government commissioned the Angel of Independence statue to be built. In 1921, it was added to the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column upon its completion.

On the reverse face, the 2020 1/10 oz Proof Mexican Silver Libertad Coins feature a depiction of the modern national emblem. The coat of arms for Mexico represents the federal government and includes a golden eagle, serpent, and cactus in the design.
