2022 Niue Star Wars Sandcrawler 5oz Silver Proof Coin

Today we can reveal the new Star Wars™ coin featuring the Jawa™ Sandcrawler™ traversing the Tatooine™ desert, as seen in Star Wars: A New Hope™. Produced in silver, this coin will take you right back to that first movie – when Uncle Owen and Luke Skywalker™ negotiated with the Jawa for droids, taking home C-3PO™ and R2-D2™.

Sandcrawlers, originally called digger crawlers, were huge mobile fortresses used by the Jawas as their transport and shelter in the deserts of Tatooine. They were equipped with a magnetic suction tube for sucking droids and scrap into the cargo hold. They also contained scrap-processing facilities and quarters for crew and passengers. Indeed, they were large enough to fit an entire Jawa clan!

The 5oz silver coin has the Sandcrawler engraved in silver against a coloured desert background, which provides a striking contrast to the mirror-finish of the sky. As legal tender coins, the obverse of each simply bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
