Developed in the 5th Century in the Liu Song dynasty, Shan Shui painting refers to a style of traditional Chinese painting that mainly depicts scenery and natural landscapes such as mountains, rivers, and waterfalls using a brush and ink over conventional paints. Shan Shui means “mountain water” when loosely translated to Mandarin. The paintings are usually centered on mountains which are believed to hold a sacred significance as homes of immortals and close to the heavens.

The collectible features a Shan Shui painting of a ferocious tiger descending from a snow-capped mountain in ultra-high relief. The design of the colored background is inspired by a Lofty Mount Lu painting by Shen Zhou, who painted it in honor of his teacher, Chen Kuan’s 70th birthday in the Ming Dynasty. Each fine brush stroke and ink of the mountains and slopes is brought to life with realistic color printing. Crafted in high relief, the life-like tiger collectible symbolizes a protector of the keeper’s home to ward off evil. It is an auspicious gift for Feng Shui believers in the Year of the Tiger. On the obverse, it features a section of the Lofty Mount Lu Shan Shui painting in Black and White, with the legal tender, the Coat of Arms du Tchad placed on the top right corner.

On a canvas of 11 x 14.5cm, a new minting technique called “Bi-Metal Max” was applied to give this piece its remarkable weight. This is made possible by combining 33.5 oz of copper as a base with a top layer of 2 oz of 999 pure Silver, resulting in high relief. This is a limited edition of 369 pieces only. Each piece is packaged and delivered with a Certificate verifying its edition number and authenticity.
