The Kraken is a legendary sea monster of enormous size that is said to dwell off the coasts of Norway and Greenland. The sheer size of this monster has been known to induce terror in sailors and anyone else unlucky enough to encounter it. It had often been described as resembling an octopus, whose tentacles could be mistaken for islands. However, it was also believed to have sailed on long, narrow fins that resembled tentacles or worse yet be a giant squid with multiple appendages. Its tentacles are so big that the ocean waves die down as they get closer to the shore when there’s a storm overhead; the tale goes on: “even from miles away from shore you can feel its presence.” The legendary sea monster serves as the inspiration for this collectible as it depicts the demon-like creature with yellowish-green eyes dragging down a ship as it crosses the treacherous sea sculpted on a concave surface in high relief. The collectible is expertly finished as the sea, for the first time, is colored with two different translucent enamel colors against the antiqued Silver of the scene above the waters. The deep blue represents the ocean, while the red depicts blood spilling from the ship in the aftermath of Kraken’s attack. The obverse features the tentacles of the Kraken wrapping the base of the ship while the legal tender, the Coat of Arms du Tchad sits in the middle.

Sized at 60mm diameter, this 5 oz 999 Pure Silver coin is struck concaved in ultra-high relief, complemented with double translucent enamel coloring and antiqued silver finishing that accentuates the realism of the depiction of the Kraken attacking the ship. This is a limited edition of 111 pieces only. Each piece is packaged and delivered with a Certificate verifying its edition number and authenticity.
