In 2024 the Royal Spanish Mint will release a 1 oz. gold coin with the image, on the reverse, of another animal representative of Spain, in this case an IMPERIAL EAGLE.
The Spanish Imperial Eagle is endemic to the Peninsula and it is one of the most emblematic and endangered birds of the Spanish fauna, which was on the verge of extinction, although it has been recovering in recent decades.
It represents power and skill to face any challenge with elegance and determination. This animal, so representative of our country, possesses excellent visual acuity and has a large and powerful wingspan. Its natural habitat is the mountainous and  Mediterranean forest areas of the Iberian Peninsula.
On the obverse is the image of a “Columnario”, the most historically recognised Spanish coin, the first global coin, which circulated around the world for more than two centuries, above this image is one of the most distinguishing features of our coins, the “Quadruple Latent Image”, which is also a security measure patented by the FNMT-RCM.
