101 Collectibles Ltd, in association with Crunchyroll© is pleased to announce the first release in an exciting new initiative in the world of collectible coins. For the first time, 101 Collectibles is bringing iconic Manga and Anime franchises to collectible coins, and to kick off, we offer the Master of Horror, Junji Ito.
Junji Ito is a Japanese Manga artist, with an incredible library of work, including Tomie, the story of an immortal girl, who drives her admirers to madness; Slug Girl, the horrifying story of a girl’s illness and transformation of her tongue into a slug; Lovesickness, the story of a mysteriously handsome spirit that drives lovers into suicide; and Soichi’s Convenient Curse, a haunting story of a young boy cursing his classmates using dolls.
Ito is renowned for his grotesque imagination, coupled perfectly with his rich and detail art.
In 2018, Crunchyroll© bought Junji Ito’s work to the small screen, through to Anime series, Junji Ito Collection, giving a new audience the chance to discover his characters and stories.
For the first coins in our series, we have turned to one of the most recognisable characters from his bookshelf, Tomie. Tomie was Junji Ito’s first published work, in 1987, published monthly.
The story centres around an attractive immortal girl, with the power to make any man fall in love with her. Her victims are driven crazy in love, leading to violence. While Tomie is killed time and time again, she simply regenerates to continue another arc in her story.
First release in a ground-breaking new series, featuring the Manga artwork of Japanese horror master, Junji Ito. Each coin faithfully depicts Ito’s central character, Tomie, with her sleek dark hair and beauty spot. Every effort has been made to recreate the style of the manga art, using a bright white background behind fine black ink. Relief behind the image and background give depth to the image. Each coin is individually numbered, and comes attractively packaged with a matching numbered certificate. These coins are the first time Ito’s work has been captured on a collectible coin, and are sure to be a sought after cult classic.
