Description
To pay tribute to Disney’s fabled rogue’s gallery of villains, the prestigious New Zealand Mint has introduced a new series of legal-tender one-ounce colorized silver proofs. For the first coin in the series, the mint chose Disney’s first – and some would say worst – villain, the Evil Queen from 1937’s “Snow White.” Issued on behalf of the island nation of Niue, the coin is struck in 99.9% silver and depicts Disney’s “original” villain in all of her colorful wickedness – right down to the shiny red apple with the phrase “Just One Bite” engraved alongside her image. Her menacing stare is enough to give anyone goosebumps!
Referred to as Queen Grimhilde in Disney publications of the 1930s, the Evil Queen is so iconic that she doesn’t really need a name. Not only was she the first Disney villain, but she was so determined to be the “fairest of them all” that she drank a potion that transformed her into an ugly old crone. Now THAT’S commitment! Her disguise as the shriveled old lady that tricked Snow White into taking a bite of a poisoned apple is terrifying, but let’s not forget that as wicked as she is, the Evil Queen is strikingly beautiful. Her flawless skin, impeccable makeup and super-fitted regal gown made for one sleek and frightening villain! Worse yet, as the beautiful and narcissistic Queen, she wanted Snow White’s heart in a box! The Evil Queen was brought chillingly to life by the voice talents of Lucille La Verne. An accomplished stage and screen actress, La Verne changed her dreadfully smooth voice for the queen to that of the ugly old crone by removing her false teeth!
