Terracotta Army
The Terracotta Army is one of the world’s greatest wonders dating back over 2,000 years. This army of over 8,000 life-size clay soldiers, horses, and chariots was found in the Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s burial complex, placed there to serve as guards of his spirit in the afterlife. Each of the thousands of figures were designed with impressive detail and are said to represent some of the actual soldiers of the day. This expansive collection wasn’t discovered until 1974 by farmers digging a well but has since then become one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world. The find has been praised as the Eighth Wonder of the World and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
