Pierce Brosnan was the fifth actor to play fictional British Secret Service agent James Bond on the big screen.
As an 11-year-old Brosnan watched Goldfinger, never imagining that one day he’d play 007. But the possibility might have occurred to him in 1981, when he visited the set of For Your Eyes Only, in which his Australian wife, Cassandra Harris, played femme fatale Lisl von Schlaf.
Born in Ireland, Brosnan’s acting career took off in Britain after studying at the Drama Centre of London. His star power rose on moving to the United States.
First mooted as the next James Bond in the mid-1980s, he was unable to accept the role until 1994, debuting in the following year’s GoldenEye. Combining glamour, charm and brutality, Brosnan’s Bond was also sensitive as he successfully transitioned the agent out of the Cold War era and into the 21st century.
An international star of great acclaim, Pierce Brosnan was awarded an honorary OBE for services to drama and the British film industry in 2003.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the James Bond Legacy Series – 4th Issue 2024 1oz Silver Proof Coloured Coin.
The coin’s reverse portrays a black and white image of the much admired actor in a classic Bond pose. The design includes the franchise’s iconic 007 gun barrel logo with inscriptions of Pierce
Brosnan’s four 007 movies, including GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day.
The coin’s obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II supplemented by the dates of her reign – ‘1952- 2022’. Also included are the coin’s weight, purity, monetary denomination, and 2024 year-date.
Each coin is presented in a 007 branded case within a themed shipper and accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
