Description
1 oz Isle of Man Platinum Noble Coin (Random Year)
The World’s First Platinum Bullion Coin
The 1 oz Isle of Man Platinum Noble Coin holds an important place in precious metals history as the world’s first platinum bullion coin created specifically for investors. Produced by the Pobjoy Mint from 1983 through 1989, the Platinum Noble quickly earned respect among collectors and investors for its unique Viking-inspired design and trusted platinum purity.
Issued by the Isle of Man, these legal tender platinum coins combine historical symbolism with investment appeal. In addition, the Platinum Noble remains one of the most recognizable vintage platinum bullion releases available on the secondary market today.
Because this listing includes random years based on available inventory, collectors may receive different dates from the original production run between 1983 and 1989.
1 oz .9995 Fine Platinum Coin
Each coin contains 1 troy ounce of .9995 fine platinum and carries a legal tender face value of One Noble. Furthermore, the coin measures 32.7 mm in diameter with a thickness of 2.38 mm and features a classic reeded edge.
The obverse displays a right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II along with inscriptions identifying the Isle of Man and the monarch’s name. Four traditional triskelion symbols separate the inscriptions around the portrait. These historic symbols reflect the island’s long cultural heritage.
Meanwhile, the reverse features a detailed Viking longboat sailing across the sea with its sail fully extended. The design honors the Isle of Man’s strong Norse and Viking history dating back centuries. In addition, inscriptions reading “1 OZ PLATINUM FINE” and “ONE NOBLE” appear below the ship. Decorative Viking knotwork and the famous triskelion symbol complete the design around the outer rim.
The combination of nautical imagery, historic symbolism, and platinum purity gives the coin lasting appeal among collectors worldwide.
Historic Platinum Bullion Appeal
The Platinum Noble series remains highly respected because of its historical importance within the bullion market. As the first platinum bullion coin designed for investors, it helped establish platinum as a collectible and investment-grade precious metal.
Platinum also offers diversification benefits for many precious metals portfolios. Unlike gold and silver, platinum often follows different market trends and industrial demand cycles. As a result, investors frequently add platinum bullion to create broader portfolio balance.
These coins arrive in protective packaging and may display light handling marks typical of secondary market bullion products. However, each coin still retains its historic collectible appeal and intrinsic platinum value.
