Description
2026 $1 Proof Silver Dollar – 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Queen Elizabeth II
The 2026 Special Edition Proof Silver Dollar honors the 100th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth. Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this coin celebrates the late monarch’s long relationship with Canada. It also highlights her lasting influence across the Commonwealth.
The coin contains 23.17 grams of 99.99% pure silver. In addition, it features a brilliant proof finish that enhances the fine engraving. The Royal Canadian Mint has limited the release to 17,500 coins worldwide. Therefore, this centennial issue offers strong appeal for collectors and royal history enthusiasts.
Inspired by the Diamond Maple Leaf Brooch
The reverse design takes inspiration from the Diamond Maple Leaf Brooch, one of Queen Elizabeth II’s most recognizable jewelry pieces. The Queen often wore this brooch during official visits to Canada. As a result, it became a powerful symbol of her personal connection to the country.
Artist Simon Ng created the reverse design. At the center sits a detailed maple leaf, inspired directly by the royal brooch. Above it appears the Royal Cypher of Queen Elizabeth II, a symbol used throughout her historic reign.
Symbolism Woven into the Design
A decorative filigree flourish surrounds the central maple leaf. Within this elegant pattern, the design reveals 13 smaller maple leaves. These represent Canada’s provinces and territories.
Because of this thoughtful detail, the coin blends national symbolism with royal heritage. The design reflects the close relationship between Queen Elizabeth II and Canada during her seven-decade reign.
A Centennial Tribute with Elegant Presentation
The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. This portrait appeared on Canadian coinage from 2003 to 2023. Its return on this commemorative coin honors the monarch’s long presence on Canada’s currency.
The coin measures 36.07 mm in diameter and features a serrated edge. It also carries a $1 CAD face value backed by the Government of Canada. Furthermore, each coin arrives in a black clamshell case with a black beauty box for safe storage and display.
With its high-purity silver, thoughtful symbolism, and limited mintage, the 2026 Proof Silver Dollar offers a meaningful tribute to Queen Elizabeth II and her enduring connection to Canada.
