Each coin contains 1/10 troy oz of actual gold content and features a gold purity of .9167 fine gold. The coin carries a legal tender face value of 5 Dollars and measures 16.5 mm in diameter with a thickness of 1.19 mm.

The obverse displays the iconic Lady Liberty design created by renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Liberty stands confidently before the Capitol building while holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. President Theodore Roosevelt originally commissioned this artwork in 1907 to improve American coinage design.

Meanwhile, the reverse features the classic bald eagle family design created by Miley Busiek in 1986 specifically for the American Gold Eagle series. The image shows a male eagle flying above the nest while carrying an olive branch to a female eagle and her hatchlings below.

Depending on the year of issue, coins may feature either the Philadelphia Mint “P” mint mark or the West Point Mint “W” mint mark.
